Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum

A Parent Carer Forum is a group of parents and carers of children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) who work with local authorities, education settings, health providers and other providers to make sure that the services they commission, plan and deliver meet the needs of disabled children and families.

The Forum has built strong working relationships and have a trusted role as parent carers of children and young people with SEND aged 0-25 in Bedford Borough.

We are experts by experience and as such, have a unique understanding of how challenging life can be raising a child or young person with SEND.

We do this by giving parent carers the opportunity to participate in a number of ways such as conferences, social media, surveys and focus groups. This feedback can then be used to co-produce and work at a strategic level with the Local Authorities and the ICB.

We also offer a range of training both face to face and online  to empower our members.

Spectrum gaming

They currently have an amazing website – for parents and professionals.  They have done a huge amount of work on barriers to education, focusing on wellbeing of the child/young person.  They have some amazing videos that can be shared, about Autism, created by Autistic people, some of which are really powerful.

They currently offer a gaming community for autistic young people under 18.  They also run a 6 week Autism Acceptance Course, which is possibly one of the best out there for people to truly understand how to see Autism through the Autism Lens and understand Autistic Trauma.

They have so many really useful approaches and use a lot of the work by Prof Any McDonnell and Studio 3.  Really worth people looking at their work.
