15th June 2021 16.00pm - 18.00pm: Dyslexia training
Tim Long, Principal Education Psychologist will be delivering this free 2 hour workshop regarding Dyslexia.
This course is designed for to gain better understanding of dyslexia (specific learning disorder) and associated learning difficulties.
The training outlines early indicators and how poor short term memory affects the learning process. It then follows on to showing how to create a dyslexia friendly home, school and classroom and finishes off with supporting reading, writing and numeracy learning ideas

16th June 2021 16.00pm - 18.00pm: ADHD Training
Bedford Borough's Education Psychology Service will be co-delivering this free 2 hour workshop regarding ADHD with Darrin Lowe, Specialist Nurse (ADHD) from Bedfordshire Community Health services.
This course is to gain better understanding of ADHD and associated learning difficulties.
The training outlines symptoms of inattentive and hyperactive – impulsive ADHD types and the need for appropriate diagnosis ruling out other disorders. It then moves on to classroom and home management strategies.

21st June 12 noon to 1pm Webinar from Bedford Borough Council's Hearing Support Team demonstrating new technology provided to young people in Bedford schools.
Bedford NHS Trust are providing and upgrading to a new generation of digital hearing aids by the manufacturer Oticon.
The webinar willl address some of these, including:
• How to set up and use EduMic
• Verifying transparency in the hearing aid analyser
• How to use EduMic for classroom media
• Rebroadcasting from a sound field system
• Connecting a TV adapter to TV/gaming console at home
• Hardwire connection options
• Various functionality on the Oticon smartphone app

24th June 2021 4pm-5.30pm: Wellbeing for Schools Webinar 1
Wellbeing for Education Return is a prevention and early intervention offer intended to help education staff support and build children and young people’s and their own wellbeing and resilience within the scope of their existing roles; prevent the onset of serious mental health problems that might later require specialist support; and help ensure that those with pre-existing or emerging difficulties can access the right support.
The training and resources are intended to support education staff to promote children and young people, teachers and parents and carers’ mental wellbeing and resilience and aid mental health recovery, in light of the impact of COVID-19 and lockdown.
The Wellbeing for Education Return training has been developed by the e-learning platform MindEd, working closely with the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families (AFC). Wellbeing for Education Return has been developed with input from and expert advisory group and wider network of mental health and education experts, advisers and providers such as head teachers, teachers, educational and clinical developmental psychologists and the voluntary sector.
Webinar 1 will cover:
- Whole school/college implementation
- Neuroscience – understanding learning and growth, wellbeing and resilience
- Actions to build resilience and wellbeing
- Implementation of actions across the whole school/college
- Vignettes/ case studies – bringing it all together
- Children and young people – specific learning
- Resources

6th July 3:30pm - 5:30pm Speech, Language & Communication Toolkit for Schools
Jo Wayman & Rima Grant, Specialist Speech and Language Therapists will be delivering this free 2 hour workshop regarding the Speech, Language & Communication Toolkit for Schools.
This course is designed primarily for SENDCos but may be useful to other staff if they are involved in identifying and supporting children with SLCN.
The locally produced toolkit enables practitioners to carry out an assessment of a children’s speech, language and communication needs (primary and secondary), and provides a range of strategies and ideas to support children depending on the outcomes of the assessment. The toolkit was launched in March 2020 and available to download from our website (childspeechbedfordshire.nhs.uk)
