Breastfeeding support - Baby Friendly Team - run by Bedfordshire Community Health Services

The Baby Friendly Team are part of Bedfordshire Community 0-19 Health Services who are dedicated to infant feeding and relationship building.  Families are at the heart of the work we do; providing excellent information and support around breastfeeding’s role in protecting, comforting and providing nutrition to baby. The team also promote, support and strengthen mother-baby and family relationships within our communities.

The Baby Friendly Team’s philosophy is to be able to provide evidence based information to support families with their breastfeeding journey and to provide information about responsive bottle feeding,  as well as recognise the importance of a close and loving relationship between mothers and their babies, whatever their method of feeding. We want all women to have meaningful conversations about infant feeding with their Health Visitor during pregnancy, as well as receive support once the baby arrives. We work closely with the 0-19 team so that they can support mothers. The Baby Friendly Team is a resource for staff to ensure that complex breastfeeding problems are supported and resolved, so that mothers are able to breastfeed for as long as they want to.

There are a variety of ways to access breastfeeding support, from our Baby Brasseries – our breastfeeding support groups, Pop In (walk in) sessions, telephone support and 1:1 support.

We know that breastfeeding is the natural way to feed a baby and that successful breastfeeding is a community effort. The team support initiatives in our local community for breastfeeding which help mothers to be able to breastfeed in public places.
