Childline 1-2-1 Counsellor chat - Coronavirus update
A MESSAGE FROM CHILDLINE
Childline and our counsellors want to support you through this. We’re working hard to make sure you can still speak to a counsellor when you need to.
Like lots of organisations in the UK, Childline is being affected by the government's advice about keeping people safe. Many of our volunteers and staff aren’t able to come in for their shifts as usual.
To make sure we can keep supporting you, we’ve had to make some very difficult decisions about how Childline works.
From tonight, you'll only be able to speak to a counsellor online or on the phone between 9am and midnight. To make sure we can answer everyone who’s waiting, you won’t be able to join the queue for a 1-2-1 chat after 10:30pm.
We’ve added an automated switchboard to help make it easier to get through when you call. You also won’t be able to use 1-2-1 chat on the Childline app for now, but you can still have one via the website.
We’re doing everything we can to support all the young people who use Childline. We might need to make more changes in the future, but we’ll keep you updated with everything that’s happening.
The news can be scary, and it can be hard to know what’s true and whether you should be scared. Whatever you’re going through, Childline wants to help.
Chat with a counsellor about anything. It's a 1-2-1 session - so it's just you and Childline. They can give you help and support with whatever's worrying you.

Sometimes chats may cut off in areas without 4G or Wifi connection. Please remember you can call us free on 0800 1111 at any time.
Talking to one of our counsellors in 1-2-1 counsellor chat is private. This means that whatever you say stays between you and Childline.
We would only need to say or do something if:
- you ask us to
- we believe your life or someone else’s life is in danger
- you're being hurt by someone in a position of trust who has access to other children like a teacher or police officer
- you tell us that you're seriously harming another young person.
