Health Visiting Service - run by Bedfordshire Community Health Services

Our health visitors support the health and wellbeing of your whole family though the Healthy Child Programme.  From antenatal visits until your child goes to school, we work to ensure that your child has the best start possible in life. The programme has the following key milestones:

  • antenatal contact
  • new birth visit within 10 - 21 days
  • 6 to 10 weeks contact
  • 9 to 12 month review
  • 3 and a 1/4 year review

During your child’s development reviews, your health visitor will ask you how your child is doing and about any concerns you may have. If your baby was born prematurely, their developmental age will be calculated from your original due date, not from the actual date they were born. It is a good idea to think about any concerns or questions you have before you see your health visitor and write them down so that you don’t forget to ask anything.

This service also contributes towards:

  • supporting children with additional needs
  • breastfeeding support and nutrition advise
  • healthy lifestyle choices
  • parenting to include establishing sleep routines and behaviour boundaries
  • parental health e.g. where to access health advice
  • child development advice and school readiness
  • support in safeguarding children
  • pre-school immunisations advice
  • emotional health and wellbeing of the family

Our team includes health visitors, community nursery nurses, student health visitors, student nurses and administrators. We work closely with midwives, school nurses, children’s centres, GP’s, social care and voluntary services.
