Youth Inspired – Improving Choices

Who are we?

We are an independent provider of learning opportunities for young people with Moderate Learning Disabilities. Young people attend for four days a week usually following a three-year course moving them closer to independence, work or further training.

What do we do?

Improving Choices takes place at our centre in Newnham Street where learners feel safe and supported in an environment where they can really thrive. This centre is unlike any they have experienced before and offers them structure, progression, individualised learning and support. Learners can choose some of the subjects they study here although English and Maths are core targets and IT is embedded as they are seen as being crucial to their ability to progress on to further training, volunteering or work. Learners are taught to manage their anxieties and become self-aware so they can develop their relationships with others as well as progressing towards independence. They will work towards recognised qualifications and will be supported as they venture out into the community and attend work placements. Our success is apparent by our learner’s progress in learning and independence. Many of our learners leave to take on apprenticeships, voluntary work, paid work and to attend college courses.
