Carers in Bedfordshire - Parent Carers

Carers in Bedfordshire have a variety of services for Parent Carers (carers of under 18s) including; groups, 1-1 support, training and advice.

We provide support for all unpaid carers, you do not need to have a formal diagnosis or receive disability benefits to access our support services.

Parent carer

is a parent (or adult with parental responsibility - ie Grandparent, Foster parent/Guardian etc), who cares for a child or young person aged 18 or under with any additional need. Often the needs of young person are life-long and the challenges being faced develop as the child/young person grows. Parent carers are life long advocates for their children

Parent Carer Support Workers & Parents Together 

When your child has a disability you can sometimes feel the need to take to someone who will understand you, something that will not judge you, another parent who has been thorough it themselves. 

Our parent carer support workers are partners carers too.  They know what it's like to cope with a diagnosis and they can offer emotional support parent-to-parent.  They are also vulverable sources of information about other local groups and services. 

Parents Together supports parents of children with any disabilities or additional needs.  We even support when there is no formal diagnosis. We also have a group that will start up again after COVID-19 

Carers Grant 

Being the parent of a child with additional needs adds extra stresses and strains.  If you physical or mental health is affected by the caring role you maybe be eligable for a carers grant.  

A carers grant can be used for:

  • Day trips 
  • Taking up a hobby
  • Joining a Gym 
  • Driving Lessons 
  • Relaxation therapies
  • Spa breaks 
  • A new bike 
  • Training Courses
  • Yoga lessons 
  • A holiday 
  • Any activity or item which you feel with give you respite and will benefit your health and wellbeing.
