- How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?
Students with SEND will be identified through baseline testing with also monitoring of progress against their FFT targets, teacher referrals and whether progress has been achieved through quality first teaching and targeted learning. If this is the case and where necessary through the graduated response, a referral to the appropriate agency will be made.
Lincrfot Academy has an Autistic Spectrum Condition Provision for 28 students from Years 5 – 11 and which are all based at Lincroft Academy within four classes.
All students within the ASC Provision have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) and where Autism is their primary need. Students are allocated a place through the Local Authority and not by the Lincroft Academy.

- How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?
At Lincroft Academy we have High Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) in charge of personalised, individual interventions, for each core subject of English, maths and science. These students will have a provision map and personal targets. The SENCO will report the measures of impact to the SEN Governor of the school and demonstrate the intervention outcomes. Effectiveness of support for our students is demonstrated on the interventions’ trackers and by provision maps.
- How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?
Lincroft Academy provide a highly structured continue professional development, which focusses upon Quality First Teaching through identifying staff needs through a skills audit. This encompasses differentiation which personalised differentiation for individual students is met through the SENDCO providing clear communication of strategies and detailed barriers to learning for students.
The TAs will monitor whether the student has met the learning objective in the lesson and apply appropriate resources to support further understanding.
The students and parents are supported during Year 8 to help the students choose their GCSE Options and an option for the Alternative Curriculum through the Princes Trust is available for students with high level needs. These students are identified by the SENDCO through assessing the four main areas of SEN to ascertain who may benefit from a personalised timetable.
Students with the ASC Provision, all students follow a personalised curriculum based upon their current needs and their interests.
- How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?
Lincroft Academy offers parental consultations throughout the Autumn and Spring Term. During each term there are assessment points for each year group and students’ progress is tracked and shared with all stakeholders.
If your child is receiving a one to one intervention, there will be termly reports, which will allow for parental and student voice. Students also receive an end of year report to see reflect upon progress made.
Parents can request a meeting with the SENDCO during the academic year for a progress check.
Subject teachers will also make contact to parents of students where there is a need that has been identified, to support the progress of students.
Students with an EHCP will have annual reviews with either the SENDCO or the designated ASC Provision Class Teacher to assess and plan progress.
- What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?
Lincroft Academy have a designated student wellbeing team to support mental health. This includes a Triage Referral process where students are referred to the team by HOY following support from the form tutor. The students will be supported through form tutor mentoring, the Lincroft Academy counsellors which is managed by the Wellbeing Officer or referrals to the school’s link to CAMH Nurse.
The Student Leadership Group are also trained in Mental Health to support students where appropriate.
Behaviour is managed by Heads of Year and the Behaviour Team who liaise with SENDCO and the Safeguarding Officer for potential need to refer to other professionals, including the Early Help Assessment Team at Bedford Borough. Our Safeguarding Officer and Family Support worker will oversee attendance and monitor patterns.
At Lincroft Academy students with high medical needs have a managed care plan which is reviewed with parents.
All support for the students’ wellbeing involves the students to ensure the right level is provided.
- What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?
At Lincroft Academy our SENDCO holds the National Qualification for Special Educational Needs Coordinator Award. Our Head of the ASC Provision and the K/S 4 ASC Teacher also hold the National SEND Award. The SENDCO and the ASC Provision Teaching staff have also completed the TEACCH Programme to support the learning for students with autism.
The Teaching Assistants in the ASC Provision are Team Teach Trained.
The Teaching Assistants in the mainstream are trained in numerous interventions as well as MITA trained.
Lincroft Academy work closely with external agencies which can be accessed through an Early Help Assessment or a direct referral which include the SEND Team at Bedford Borough, Early Help Assessment Team, CAMHs, CHUMS, Sensory Team at the Child Development Centre, Intense Family Support and FACES,
- What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?
Staff at Lincroft are trained in Safeguarding, Dyslexia, Solution Focus, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Restorative Justice and Attachment Disorder.
- How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?
We provide the correct support for pupils to access school trips. We liaise with the appropriate agencies that are assigned to a student and provide staff training if appropriate prior to the trip. Parents are fully involved in the planning of trips for our students.
The breakfast and after school Sports, Performing Arts and Academic clubs are accessible to all students. If required a TA will support an after school club.
- How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?
Lincroft Academy is wheelchair friendly with lifts available to the first floor and with ramp access where necessary around the school. We have the Visual Impairment Team working in the school where their office is set up to teach braille to the required students. The site is also set up to support visually impaired students with the necessary floor markings around the school.
There are also allocated disabled toilets in different areas of the school to support all students and staff. We also have an auditory loop available. The SEND Needs are meet through communication and strong working professional relationships with outside agencies who are assigned to students.
Our EAL students will be fully supported through the direction of the SENDCO with staff being provided with appropriate resources and strategies. Where one to one provision is required the school will look to support as appropriate which may include accessing additional
- How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?
At Lincroft Academy we can provide extra transition days for students if necessary on top of the two transition days that occur during the Summer Term. This is to support the intake of Year 6 students joining Lincroft Academy in the Autumn Term. This will be through the SENDCO liaising with the feeder school SENDCOs.
Where necessary, a personalised timetable to support transition may happen under the guidance and direction from the SENDCO due to extreme needs of the students.
The SENDCO will communicate with the primary SENDCOs far in advance from transition to share information to support the transition.
All pupils starting in a class within in the ASC Provision will follow a personalised Transition Programme usually over a six to eight week period.
Year 11 Students will start their understanding of Transitioning to further education providers by undertaking Careers Advice meetings in Year 10 and 11 to begin planning. Students will undertake Taster Days during the Autumn Term to support transition after Year 11. Guidance for SEND students and parents will be provided by the SENDCO to support planning to further education.
Here necessary extra transition days will be organised by SENDCO and other relevant staff.
- How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?
Support at Lincroft is evidence driven. If a student is making little progress then support will be allocated. This will be by looking at quality first teaching, targeted support and then personalised learning. This will be measured against the student’s achievement and targets. This data will be accessed termly at each data drop. The SENDCO alongside Heads of Departments will discuss students and necessary subject interventions to be allocated and what is needed for progress and to narrow the gap. Parents of students who are on personalised learning approach with one to one interventions will be notified through termly reports.
- How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?
The SENDCO alongside Heads of Departments will regularly meet to discuss students and the necessary subject interventions to be allocated and what is needed to be implemented for progress and to narrow the gap between different groups of students.
TAs are deployed to support learning in the lowest tiered set within core subjects throughout all year groups to work with targeted students on the SEND Register.

Lincroft Academy have an open-door policy to parents. Parents are able to meet with the SENDCO or send the SENDCO an email on progress checks whether for academic or for personal development at any time during the year.
