We are a village school founded over 150 years ago with a strong community heritage. We are a Values School. This means the whole school is committed to understanding and demonstrating values such as friendship, trust and peace. Our values are founded in Christianity and are common to major world religions. They are an important part of being a good citizen anywhere in the world.

Values are universally accepted principles that guide our behaviour and promote good citizenship. As a church school our values are based on Christian principles, but they are not exclusively so. We believe they are espoused by people of all faiths and are an integral element of society.

We also believe that learning about values helps our pupils develop into successful learners, and successful adults.

Bromham Primary School is a large school that feels like a small school – we know each and every one of our children well and as a result we are able to make sure each child achieves their personal best. Our school is a happy place with a curriculum designed to excite, inspire and motivate children to acquire the knowledge and skills that will successfully prepare them for their future.

Before and after school care There is a range of choice available for before and after school care provided by the school. How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

At Bromham CofE Primary School we believe that it is every child’s right to achieve his/her full potential regardless of ability, gender, race or socio-economic circumstance. We recognise that although the majority of children should achieve this through the normal differentiated curriculum, there are some children whose learning or behaviour requires special provision.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

When children first come in to school they are following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme of study - for children up to 5 years old (and beyond where relevant).

The EYFS has four guiding principles:

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity. Throughout this time the progress of each child is continually assessed and activities planned to meet their future needs. We aim to plan ‘just beyond the fingertips’ of each child.


How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

Throughout their time in the Foundation Stage, you and your child’s teacher will share information about their progress at school and at home. At the end of the year you will receive a written report with details of their achievements and highlighting the next steps in their learning.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

We acknowledge that a child may have specific difficulties that require individual work programmes for a period of time. We believe that identification of a child’s special needs as early as possible is essential. However, we are also aware that a child may need time to mature before formal procedures begin and that, during this period, careful monitoring should take place.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We believe that since a child’s intellectual development is affected by his/her social, emotional and physical growth any diagnostic procedures and programmes of work must take these factors into account. We recognise that Special Needs provision is a whole school responsibility and that the SENDCO is there as an informed adviser, however, the main responsibility for the SEND child lies with the class teacher. We also believe that observation and record keeping are vital elements in supporting children with Special Needs effectively.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

The school employs a fully qualified SENDCo who is  responsible for the inclusion of students across the school. It is the SENDCo who is responsible for ensuring all pupils with SEND are receiving support, both inside and external, including training for support staff.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?


We are an inclusive school and the children are informed of the school activities in advance allowing the parents/carers to ensure safe arrangements can be made. Reasonable adjustments will be made to the activity to ensure all children have the opportunity to attend the activities and school trips. 

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

The school is wheelchair accessible, has adapted toilet and 1:1 staff ratios where needed.

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

The school works closely with the local secondary schools to ensure there is a smooth transition between settings. There are professional meetings to ensure a detailed handover is given to key members of staff.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

The school makes an audit of all its resources through the subject leader. This ensures the school has adequate resources allocated to the relevant pupils including children with special needs.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

The type and how much support is completed through the planning and review cycle. The initial identification is made within the classroom and, if further support from external agencies is needed, a referral will be carried out by the SENDCo.

At all times the parents of the child/young person will be informed and included.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

At Bromham CofE Primary, we encourage involvement from parents. this could be as easy as supporting your child in their learning or becoming a member of our PTA.
