Dental Service for Childten and Adults with Additional Needs

We know that some patients can have difficulties in accessing dental care. We’re here to give high quality treatment and a caring, understanding approach to children and adults with additional needs.

Children

We welcome children at all our clinics in Bedfordshire for routine dental care. Our dental teams have many years’ experience in providing care for nervous children and teenagers.

Adults

We provide routine check-ups and dental treatment to adults with additional needs, disabilities and learning difficulties in Bedford.

What services do you offer?

As well as our clinic-based services, we run mobile clinics at day centres for adults with learning disabilities.

Do you have wheelchair access?

We have ground floor surgeries with easy access for wheelchairs. We also have a specialist wheelchair recliner at our clinics at the Dental Care Centre, Bedford.  The fully equipped mobile surgery has full wheelchair access and hoist.

What services do you offer?

We provide dental care with:

  • Behaviour management techniques
  • Inhalation sedation
  • Intravenous sedation
  • General anaesthesia – this is available at operating theatres in Bedford Hospital with a full anaesthetic team

Do you accept referrals?

We accept referrals from dentists (General Dental Practitioners) and other healthcare professionals for children most in need within Bedford.

Do you visit special schools?

We provide oral health screenings to children in special schools across Bedfordshire and Luton; routine examinations and treatments are also carried out on a regular basis.

Oral health screenings, routine check-ups and courses of treatment are carried out at special schools in Bedfordshire and Luton from our Dental Mobile Service.

Learning Disabilities

We provide a caring, understanding environment for patients with learning disabilities.

We build long-term relationships with our patients and the teams at local care homes. We pride ourselves on our good communication with hospital services, social services, specialist learning disability services and special schools.

You can access a wide range of treatments from our clinics, including:

  • Behavioural and communication techniques
  • Dental care under sedation or general anaesthetic
  • Home visits

Parking

Pay and display parking is available for patients visiting the Dental Care Centre. Blue Badge parking spaces are available for patients visiting the Dental Care Centre.

There’s a bus stop on Kimbolton Road opposite the entrance to Bedford Health Village.
