Paediatric Physiotherapy Service
Who are we?
We are NHS health care professionals based at the Child development Centre in Kempston. We help children to maximise their physical abilities. We work with children with a broad range of physical problems in particular those associated with neuromuscular, musculo-skeletal (muscles and joints), and respiratory systems.
What do we do?
The paediatric physiotherapy service will offer assessment and treatment to children 0-19 years and aims to help the child achieve their full physical potential and minimise any secondary problems. These can be children with moderate or severe physical disability and/or learning disabilities or can be children with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal complaints. We use physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being.
Exercise, 'hands on' manual techniques, positioning, equipment provision, and 24 hour postural care are some of the approaches used

First appointments usually last between 60 to 90 minutes. Follow up appointments are usually shorter depending on need.
Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately depending on their problem. Shorts and t-shirt are usually the most appropriate

We are based in North Bedfordshire and accept referrals for children who are registered with a GP in North and mid Bedfordshire and are under 18 years.
We require a referral from a health or education professional for the initial assessment. Once your child has been discharged we accept parental self referrals for the same problem if we receive this within one year of discharge.
