School Nursing

Our team of schools nurses work with children, young people and their families to ensure their health and wellbeing needs are supported within their school and community. We do this through the Healthy Child Programme and play a key role in addressing public health issues such as emotional health and wellbeing, sexual health, obesity, asthma etc.

  • Health Screening - Year R:Hearing Screen (Bedford Borough), Year R and Year 6: National Child Measurement Programme. This is offered to all children and gives parents/carers the opportunity to highlight health concern.

  • Drop- Clinics for children aged 11 - 19 (including the PRU’s) - Students in Year 7 and above can self-refer to the school nursing team through attending drop ins, which are run on a weekly basis in schools across the county.

  • ChatHealth - secure text message service for children and young people aged 11-19 years. Simply text 07507 331450 to ask health related questions on mental health, drugs, relationships etc. Texts answered Monday to Friday, 9am - 4.30pm.

  • Parentline – secure text message service for parents and carers of those aged 0-19 years. Simply text 07507 331456 for free and confidential advice and support on a range of issues such as weaning, sleep and emotional health. Texts will be answered Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm.
