How does the setting/school/college know if children/young people need extra help and what should I do if I think my child/young person may have special educational needs?

Teachers work closely with the children and identify if the children have specific difficulties.  These difficulties are dealt with through out own knowledge and expertise where able, but we work closely with a range of additional support services and providers where necessary.  If there are any concerns as a parent we would encourage you to have a discussion with us as early as possible to ensure that we work towards getting the appropriate help.

How will early years setting/school/college staff support my child/young person?

The SEND-co will work closely with the teacher to identify specific needs and where possible this will be supported in the classroom.  where additional help is required we will make an appropriate referral for support.  The SEND-co will meet to discuss needs and processes, and together with the teacher they will create an individual plan for the child.  School Governors meet to regularly discuss and evaluate the provision for children.

How will the curriculum be matched to my child's/young person's needs?

the children in each class are encouraged to work independently and are supported to achieve their expectations.  Staff within the school strive to meet the needs of each child.

How will both you and I know how my child/young person is doing and how will you help me to support my child's/young person's learning?

work and expectations will be appropriate for each child and progress will be reported termly with a chance to meet and discuss this.  We operate an open door policy and are happy to meet with parents to discuss their child.

What support will there be for my child's/young person's overall well being?

we are a nurturing school with expertise in attachment and do our best to support all children and ensure wellbeing is high on our agenda.

What specialist services and expertise are avaliable at or accessed by the setting/school/college?

We will access the appropriate services on offer both through Bedford Borough, and other LA in which our children reside, and independent providers to support our children.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had? Are any being trained currently?

SEND-co qualifications for two staff in school, attachment lead training, ASC training, Sensory processing training, EKLAN training.

How will my child/young person be included in activities outside this classroom including school trips?

All children are included in all activities on offer in school.

How accessible is the setting/school/college enviroment?

The school is accessible to wheelchair users, with the provision of ramps and disabled toilets. 

How will the setting/school/college prepare and support my child/young person to join the setting/school/college or the next stage of education and life?

We work closely with any schools which our children are to transfer to, ensuring as far as is possible that transitions are supported, smooth and effective.

How are the setting's/school's/college's resources allocated and matched to children's/young people's special educational needs?

We consider the needs of each child and will provide additional and appropriate resources where possible.

How is the decision made about what type and how much support my child/young person will receive?

SEND-co and Headteacher will meet and discuss the needs of the children and consider budgetary matters and priorities for the school and its children.

How are parents involved in the setting/school/college? How can I be involved?

Parents are actively encouraged to participate in school activities and volunteer for a range of opportunities where they are able.  We also encourage parents to actively participate in reviews of their child's educational progress.
