Joint Commissioning

Joint Commissioning is a strategic approach to planning and delivering services in a holistic, joined-up way. It is a means for the different partners commissioning education, health and care provision, to deliver positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Bedford Borough Council, Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum have coproduced a Joint SEND Commissioning Strategy. This strategy can be found here.

Working Together: Joint Commissioning Arrangements: Council for Disabled Children is a useful document which clearly sets out what Joint Commissioning is, what it means for the services involved and most importantly those receiving services

NHS Commissioning is about getting the best possible health outcomes for the local population. This involves assessing local needs, deciding priorities and strategies, and then buying services on behalf of the population from providers such as hospitals, clinics, community health bodies, etc. It is an ongoing process.
